What to look for
Signs your heat needs a repair
No heat at all
The thermostat calls for heat and nothing comes on. A failed heat strip, relay or control board is common.
Heat that blows cool
Air that never warms can mean a failed heat strip, a bad sequencer or, on a gas unit, an ignition fault.
The breaker keeps tripping
Heat strips draw a lot of power. A breaker that trips when heat starts needs a look before another reset.
A burning smell that stays
A little dust smell on the first run is normal. A smell that lasts, or smells like hot plastic, is not.
A gas smell
If you smell gas, leave the house and call 911 or the gas company first. Then call us.
Short, loud or uneven heat
Heat that cycles on and off, bangs or leaves rooms cold points to a worn part or a blocked filter.

Electric heat strips draw a lot of power at once, and a failed strip or a worn breaker can trip it.
